Can do attitude!

This weekend was extremely rough. There was a lot of stuff I needed to do and not enough time to finish it all, so naturally I didn't get to rest very much. Funny thing is, I was able to get what I needed to do done while slowly dying inside.

One of the things that needed to happen was changing the oil in my car. This is not a particularly long task, as I do it myself and don't wait around for a group of mechanics to decide that "it's her turn" and then take me out to my car to tell me everything I already know about it... including the problems.

Well I normally do business at Advance Auto Parts, and that's mainly because I know a lot of the people there due to the fact that my ex (who I'm still friends with) used to work there. Saturday I was planning to go in to buy all the stuff I needed for the oil change but something weird was happening and tons of fire trucks, EMS and other emergency vehicles blocked the entrance. I'm not a rubbernecking moron so I turned around and went up the road to AutoZone.

Now, I don't like going to auto parts stores by myself because the men who work in them think I'm some kind of idiot because I'm a woman. This pisses me off beyond all recognition. I do a lot of work on my car myself and the only men who help me is my loving daddy and my poor sad ex who I rope into doing work on my car a lot.

So, when I walked into AutoZone I was very surprised to see it completely empty and a girl as an employee. Naturally, I walked in with a "I know what I'm doing, don't screw with me" look on my face. It wasn't needed. The fact that I talked the store manager into giving me any oil filter other than a Fram was enough for me to somehow get everything I needed for the oil change, plus an air filter for 31 bucks. Along with a bit of respect from the staff when I could knowledgeably talk about vehicles.

Well, since I am the kind of woman who carries a screw driver in her purse (don't judge me) I went ahead and changed my air filter in the parking lot. This seemed to intrigue the store manager and despite saying I knew what I was doing he came outside to, help? Of course, I did it all myself cause **ahem** I know what I'm doing. I believe the words "I'm impressed" came out of his mouth four times in the time it took me to change my air filter... go figure.

So, needless to say. LADIES, if you have a "Can do" attitude, there isn't anything you can't accomplish; including working on your own car. You don't NEED a man to do it, you just think you do. Men don't know what they are talking about half the time, just like us. So don't take his word for it. Learn and be smart! Or a smartass, whichever works for ya.
