Has anyone else out there planted a garden? I do it for my mom because she is the type of person who can look at plants and they die. I usually get them going and the only thing she is responsible for is watering them. However, my spring has been quite busy so I haven't had the time to plant the 12 tomato plants she and my grandmother bought.
Well, thanks to the distinguished service of the military through the years and our great countries recognition of them we had a long weekend. So, what better time to plant the little buggers?
Let's set the scene shall we?
I'm in the backyard using a handheld tiling tool listening to "American Pie" on my Bose iPod docking station while swatting at every living insect that has ever walked the earth. I was smart too, and didn't wear gloves! I have wonderful battle scars this morning by the way in the form of blisters. But, I digress.
So, I as I continue to rip out weeds and grass from the small plot that I deemed fit to plant these suckers, I come across something ironic. Two or three years ago I planted three blueberry and four blackberry plants in the backyard. One of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time, you know? Well since that time I think they've been mowed over 3 times (Thanks Dad!) and still look like the pathetic little bushes they were when I planted them. In early April I dug what was left of the bushes, which was one blueberry plant and two blackberry plants and put them in pots. Well, as I dug up the yard I came across a burgeoning blackberry plant! I quickly whisked it into a pot and set it with it's family. Just a fun factoid that I'm sure no one has any interest in!
As the evening drew nearer and the bugs became more bold in their attacks on my flesh, I finally completed my task in planting 12 tomato plants. Behold, Le Garden de Heather. I feel so accomplished, so proud... So utterly exhausted.
