A Good Friend is Hard to Find

I like to rant, so I thought I'd blog on a happier topic today.

May I say, I don't know what Flannery O'Conner was thinking when she said "A Good Man is Hard to Find" because she should have said "A Good Friend is Hard to Find." Let's face it, in each of our lifetimes, we will only find one or two truly good friends. Friends who are there for you at 3 a.m. when you call and are lost in the city. Friends who will support you knowing you're making a stupid choice, and are there to pick up the pieces when it all falls a part. Yes, good friends are hard to find.

You know you have a good friend when you think of all the things you've done in life that are absolutely stupid, and you can't think of one where that person wasn't either with you or laughing at you when you told the story. Best friends transcend the ages, you know your 20s, 30s and 40s, that's what makes them best.

Of, course we must not forget family who are more than family but best friends. You can always count on them to tell you exactly what you need to hear, even if you don't want to listen, and pick up the pieces of a broken situation and try to put them back together, or simply carry them for you until you're ready to do it yourself.

So, who are those people to you? Have you told them lately how much you appreciate their friendship and that without them your life would be that much more empty? If not, you probably should. And, while you're at it, get your mom a Mother's Day card! No excuses!
