"Not now"... It seems so vague

Facebook has been, and continues to be a dominant force in the world of social media. If it were possible to monopolize the "human experience" I believe Mark Zuckerberg is the closest to doing so.

Since I joined Facebook back when it was a college only network (don't even get me started), it looked MUCH different as many people can testify. When someone sent you a friend request, you could simply ignore it. After all, not everyone is going to be friends with everyone and there are some people you don't want to see on your personal Facebook account because they tell EVERYONE your business.

Anyway, as Facebook has evolved, so then with it have we. We've gone through format, toggle and capabilities changes which have all ironed themselves out naturally. However, I cannot get over the new way you ignore a friend request.

First, you receive a friend request and you can either "confirm" or, just in case you think you may want to llloovveee this person later "Not Now." Um, what? Not now? If I choose to ignore this person I don't want an extra step in the process of deleting their friend request. It's like when you unsubscribe to an e-newsletter,  they say "Are you sure?!" and when you click yes, they say "Are you absolutely positively unequivocally sure that you are certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that you WANT TO STOP receiving newsletters from us??" They should have a giant sad face with tears rolling down it.

These days nothing seems permanent, even your ability to wipe someone out of your life! Although, I will say as a side note that I've met a lot of people who don't want to be friends with people at work, family etc because of the crapstorm that would ensue due to difference of opinion, which I can relate to. But, I digress.

I take this new tactic by Facebook as a subliminal message launched into our subconscious which is telling us that everyone has to like everyone regardless. Well, that's fine in a Utopian society where you can eat cotton candy all day every day and not get fat or sick... But, we live in the real world where you know people start crap behind your back despite your best efforts to play nice. I would like to send a barber shop quartet to people I don't want to be friends with...They can sing a pretty song outlining how I would rather not get caught in the drama that is their existence but please enjoy the music. No? :-D
