Greeting Cards... sigh

So, as most of you know Father's Day is this weekend. While I appreciate the opportunity to celebrate my daddy I must say that the whole buying a card is very daunting. I think most of you agree.

Let's talk about cards in general. As one person yearly, you can potentially buy 13 birthday cards, two father's day cards (three if you have an in-law AND a step parent) two mother's day cards (same applies here as well) 150 Christmas cards, three wedding cards and at least five to seven "just because" cards.

I estimate, using no math at all, that the average person can potentially spend on average $3.29 per card. Multiply that times 179 and you get $588.91 yearly on GREETING CARDS!

Digest that for a moment.

Think of what $588.91 can buy you in a year. Could be rent for a month, or two or three car payments! At $5.75 a bale I can buy 102.43478 bales of hay! That's like half a year's worth of hay.

We have bought into the notion that instead of being heartfelt and purchasing a gift, we instead put a John Deer gift card in a slightly emotional greeting card, give Dad a hug and go on our way. WELL NO MORE! This year I plan to do something most small children do. I'm making my own card! And this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm so broke I can't even afford $3.29...
