I saw the cutest meme the other day. It said,
Step 1: Buy sword
Step 2: Name it kindness
Step 3: Kill people with kindness
Novel approach to the old idiom if I do say so myself. How true is it though, that we don't actually kill people with kindness anymore? It's much easier to be mean than to make the effort to be kind. I'm guilty of this myself, but sometimes there are opportunities that you just shouldn't pass up.
I took a trip out west, and at my final destination where I was picked up by a friend, there was a woman walking to her car with two rolling bags and a giant box. She dropped the box and couldn't figure out how to carry the box and pull two bags. Now there are two scenarios here, 1.) people look and keep walking or 2.) someone takes the time to help her to the car. Which person are you usually? Yes yes, I get it we are all busy and believe me the last thing I wanted to do was help someone to their car after being on two planes and jumping 2 hours behind my normal Eastern Standard time. But, nevertheless I struck up a conversation and rolled one of her bags to her car. It turned out the box was a "guess what you get to take with you whether you like it or not" kind of present.
It's a lot harder to be kind than it is to be mean, but when you're immediately faced with a situation where you are the only person who can help, don't ignore it. Besides, in my case of traveling, I would have never gotten a sword through security.
