Depiction of the world... What do you sow?

This morning was interesting. As you know, I often help motorists who are overwhelmed by their vehicle breaking down. I've helped many women, because I know what it feels like to be helpless and pray for a kindhearted person to give you strength in your time of weakness.

Today, I had that opportunity. But it was different. It was a young man, around my age, whose car had run out of gas at a stop light. He was trying to get to work, had his uniform on and everything. But he knew he needed to stop for gas, which was only down the hill and two lights away. But he didn't get there. Put yourself in his shoes for just a moment. Pretty distressing, isn't it?

I pulled up behind him, meanwhile hearing the honks of angry drivers who are unsympathetic and, in my honest opinions, jerks. I walk up to his window, cop style with my body to the side, and I tap it. He opens the door and to his surprise I offered to help.

After surveying the situation, because I am for all intents and purposes a problem solver, I realize I can't help get his car anywhere that it isn't in the way. So, I tell him we're going to get him some gas and to leave his car there. He said he couldn't afford a gas can, I told him I'd buy it and not to worry.

We went to the gas station, I bought a 2 gallon can and 2 gallons of gas to put in his car. He couldn't thank me enough.

When we got back to his car, we had some trouble with the gas can as it was one of those stupid spring loaded caps that pretty much don't allow you to put gas into your car. So I pulled an empty cup out of his car and we cut the bottom off and used it as a funnel.

All the while, people are honking and giving dirty looks. I even got some cat calls standing out there, perverts.

Once the gas was in his car, he was good to go. We went our separate ways, all the while me an unlikely hero and him in unlikely distress.

Funny thing about kindness, when you're in the middle of it you don't notice all the hate around you. There must have easily been 50+ cars that passed us angry and honking while we desperately tried to get the gas in his car, but neither of us noticed because we were too busy being nice to one another and laughing about how he's called his boss 3 times already to let him know he'd be late.

What a depiction of the world, huh? Two normal people in an imperfect situation making the best of it with a simple gesture of kindness while the world is in chaos around us.

I don't ever do kind things for people because I want some kind of fame from it. I do it because I know that you reap what you sow. If I sow kindness then I will get it in return. If I sow hate and meanness, then I will get it in return.

What do you sow?
