Windshield Wipers... Oh how I love them.

When I started looking up the history of cars, windshields and wipers I was surprised by my findings and feel its necessary to share.

Man created the first motorized vehicle in roughly (and I do mean roughly) the 1670s. Now there is all kinds of history about what kind of engines were used blah blah, but for our purposes we don't care about that. So, man makes car in the 1670s. He improves on the car well into the late 1800s as more and more people use it and are enthralled by it.

Well, at that time most modern cars looked like this, (keep in mind this is a 1914 ambulance, which already had the glass windshield and windows, so picture it without those things.)

The windshield was invented in the early 1900s and around 1903 Mary Anderson had the bright idea of creating a device that would squeegee water off a car windshield when it rained. No companies were interested in this idea until the 1920s. By 1926, men got the bright idea "Hey maybe she was on to something" and created the motorized windshield wiper which is a version of what we use today.

I love my windshield wipers and when they show the slightest bit of wear I am quick to buy a new pair. It seems like a little thing, but its similar to those photos of celebrities without eyebrows; you never notice it until you are without... and then everything looks funny. The best part? We have a woman to thank, because without windshield wipers, if it's raining... you are sssooo screwed.
